Ella met the team at Better Dairy who are on a mission to create dairy products that are molecularly identical to traditional dairy whilst not involving any animals.
Ella spoke to Kate, Michelle and Anna about the work that they do and why they do it.
Ella: Why do you care about the planet?
Kate: I care about the planet because it's a shared resource for the whole human population and we must look after it.
Michelle: The planet takes care of us so we must make sure to take care of it.
Anna: I just love animals and I really want to look after them.
Ella: Why are you trying to help with dairy?
Kate: It's a really big opportunity, lots of people have already become vegan to help the planet but by doing what we're doing with dairy I hope that we can help more people make the transition.
Anna: By not needing them for dairy we can let the dairy producing animals be free and happy instead.
Michelle: Lots of people at the moment aren't vegan because the cheeses available don't taste that nice. By creating something that tastes just as good, or even better, then that might help more people become vegan.
Ella: Do you do anything else to help the planet?
Kate: When you do science it involves a lot of disposable items so we're trying hard to find ways of doing our research sustainably. Even my lab coat is reused!
Anna: I agree with Kate, we're always looking for ways to do things more sustainably.
Michelle: We make use of second-hand equipment where we can. By reusing equipment we are reducing our carbon footprint.
